LSU video board to be largest in college baseball
BATON ROUGE, La. – The new video board at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field will be the largest in college baseball when it begins operating for the Tigers’ 2019 season opener in February.
The state-of-the art structure, located in left field, measures 71.4 feet wide by 37.8 feet high for a total square footage of 2,698. The 16 mm high-definition video board will provide instant replays and enhanced statistical information with the capability for full-screen video viewing.
Two free-standing sponsor recognition panels will be constructed on either side of the high-definition board, maximizing the amount of space available for video and statistics.
An auxiliary board will also be installed in right-center field, and it will display supplemental information like up-to-date lineups and scores of other games.
“There is no better place to experience college baseball than in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri, “and this new video board will make the environment at ‘The Box’ even more distinctive. Our fans are unmatched in their enthusiasm for our program, and we’re excited to create new ways for them to enjoy watching the Tigers play.”
“It’s all in our continuing effort to enhance the in-game experience for the best fans in college baseball,” said Robert Munson, senior associate athletic director. “The new board will not have any static advertising, so it will be focused on baseball. It will have constantly updated in-game stats for batters, detailed pitch stats like pitch counts and speed, and will essentially function like a real-time box score. It’s an open canvas for us and we’re excited to see what we can do with it.”
Along with the video board project, the expansion of the baseball hitting facility continues at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. Construction began in June and will add 4,300 square feet of space to the building, including a 3,500 square-foot weight training facility and spacious cardio mezzanine that will cater to the specific needs of the baseball student-athlete.
The weight training/performance facility project will be completed in April 2019, and it will feature not only the weight training component, but also a nutritional fueling station for student-athletes and a locker room for former LSU players to utilize when preparing for MLB spring training.
The video board and training facility projects utilize no state funding, incur no debt and are funded by the Tiger Athletic Foundation in support of LSU Athletics.
