LSU got Bama. It’s been a long time since that could be written.
The Tigers defeated Alabama 46-41 Saturday snapping an infamous eight-game losing streak. The game featured 1,110 totals yards.
“We’re there tonight,” LSU coach Ed Orgeron said. “It’s not the first time we’re going to beat them. I can promise you that.
While LSU quarterback Joe Burrow once again lead the way for the offense, it was the late-game heroics of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire that sealed the deal for the Tigers.
Edwards-Helaire had 20 carries for 103 yards and three touchdowns and added nine catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. He scored the final four touchdowns for the Tigers.
“I’m 20-years-old, so the last time we beat them, I was in elementary school,” Edwards-Helaire said. “I proved I’m an every-down back. I’m an SEC back. I had the I had those doubts coming into LSU. ‘Oh, he’s not big enough. Oh, he’s going to be too slow.’”
“They can measure the things they see, but they can’t measure your heart,” Edwards-Helaire said.
While Edwards-Helaire’s performance secured the win, Burrow’s performance may have secured the Heisman Trophy.
Burrow went 31-39 for 393 yards with three touchdowns no interceptions wIf you exclude five sacks on Burrow, he had nine carries for 101 yards.
“I don’t get a vote, but if I did it goes to him (Burrow),” Orgeron said. “Very proud of our football team.”

Both potent offenses exchanged scores twice more in the fourth quarter. LSU Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson caught the onside kick and Edwards-Helaire tacked on one last big run for a first down claiming LSU’s first victory over the Tide since 2011.
“They made plays when they had to make plays on offense,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said. They are a very, very good team.”
