LSU (11-0, 7-0) has punched its ticket to Atlanta for a date with Georgia in the SEC Championship for the first time since 2011.

The Tigers defeated Arkansas 56-20 to secure the SEC West. There was no shortage of offensive milestones obtained along the way.

The Tigers had a sluggish start - and a sluggish finish. But everywhere in between, the Tigers absolutely dominated this game.

Joe Burrow eclipsed 4,000 yards passing. Clyde Edwards-Helaire topped the 1,000-yard mark rushing. They joined Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr with 1,000 yards each to become the first such tandem in SEC history.

"We've still got four games left, too," Burrow said. "The (records) we're breaking this year, I don't know if they'll ever be broken again."

The first quarter ended with Arkansas (2-9, 0-7) hanging in the game 7-3. The Razorbacks even added another field goal to make it a 7-6 game in the second quarter.

LSU responded with 49 unanswered points taking a commanding 56-6 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Arkansas added a pair of touchdowns against reserve defenders in the fourth quarter to cut the lead 56-20.

“We want to be ranked number one at the end of the season,” LSU coach Ed Orgeron said. “That is the goal of this football team.”

For Burrow’s Heisman campaign, it was business as usual. Burrow completed 23-28 of his passes with three touchdowns and 327 yards. His favorite target was once again receiver Ja’Mar Chase with 144 yards on six catches with a pair of scores.

However, Burrow and the receivers actually got outshined in the one buy running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The back average 31.3 yards per rushing attempt. he ran the ball six times for 188 yards and three scores.

He also recorded seven catches for 65 yards giving him 253 yards from scrimmage.

LSU had 612 yards of offense in the game.

Defensively LSU responded to a lot of criticism following last week’s game against Ole Miss by holding Arkansas to 304 yards of offense.

linebacker Jacob Philips led the Tigers in tackles with 12, but it was Jacoby Stevens who stole the defensive spotlight with three sacks and a quarterback hurry.

Notably,  LSU outgained on yards per play 12.8 to 4.3.

"There was not going to be too much of a celebration for beating Arkansas," Orgeron said. "They haven't beaten anybody in a long time. We were supposed to win that football game."

Now LSU sets its eyes on Texas A&M to finish with the first 12-0 regular season since 2011. Burrow will have the opportunity to break SEC records for passing yards and touchdowns in that game. He needs three touchdowns and 261 yards to tie SEC single-season records.

Orgeron said after the game his team is prepared to play the Aggies next win.

“I’ll never forget that game last year,” Orgeron said. “We’ll be ready.”
