LSU's Joe Burrow wins the Heisman Trophy

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has won the 2019 Heisman Trophy.  The All-time passing leader in Southeastern Conference History is the Tigers second Heisman winner in school history.  

“It’s an honor to stand on the same stage as all of these guys,” said an emotional Burrow after hearing his name called. “I’m so thankful to have played for two of the best programs in the country. I wouldn’t have traded my journey for anything.”

Burrow is the 85th winner of the Heisman Memorial Trophy. His win shattered Heisman voting records, with the highest percentage of first place votes, the highest percentage of possible points and appearing on the most ballots. His margin of victory (1,846 points) bettered the long-standing record set by O.J. Simpson in 1968.

Burrow so far has led LSU to a 13-0 record and a Southestern Conference Championship.  He’s passed for 4,715 yards with 48 touchdowns.  His pass completion percentage of 77.9 is highest in the nation.   in the nation (77.9). He holds LSU records for passing touchdowns (41) and yards (4,014) with only six interceptions.

LSU’s only other Heisman Trophy winner is running back Billy Cannon who won it in 1959.

Joe Burrow is the first graduate transfer to ever win the award.  He’s the third transfer of any time in-a-row to win the Heisman.  (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield).

Other awards Joe Burrow has won this week include:  AP National Player of the Year, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Davey O’Brien Award, Maxwell Trophy and Walter Camp.
