Ed Orgeron named Coach of the Year by the Associated Press

LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron of LSU has been named The Associated Press Coach of the Year.  Orgeron led No. 1 ranked LSU to a Southeastern Conference championship and their first College Football Playoff appearance.

Of the 56 first-place votes, Orgeron received 33 of them.  Baylors Matt Rhule finished second with 14.  Ryan Day of Ohio State finished third while Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck finished fourth.

Orgeron is now the third LSU coach in history to win the award since it was established in 1998.  Nick Saban won it in 2003 while Les Miles won it in 2011.
