Sports reporter Carley McCord dies in plane crash
The Associated Press has confirmed that Louisiana sports reporter Carley McCord perished in a Lafayette small plane crash Saturday morning. McCord is the daughter-in-law of LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger.
McCord’s husband Steve Ensminger, Jr. confirmed the news for the Associated Press.
The planes destination was Atlanta for the LSU-Oklahoma College Football Playoff game.
According to KATC television in Lafayette there were five fatalities with one person currently listed as a survivor.
LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron stated in a pregame interview that Steve Ensminger will coach the Tigers Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl game versus Oklahoma set for 3 p.m. CST kickoff.

The crash happened in the 9:00 am hour near the intersection of Feu Follet and Verot School Road. Authorities say there was a small fire involving the plane and one vehicle was fully engulfed. Both fires were quickly extinguished and a search and rescue was conducted.
First responders says that six people were on board that plane, which is a Piper Fixed Wing Multi-Engine aircraft. Only one survived that crash. Three people on the ground were treated from injuries and transported to a local hospital.
