After a hot start and a double-digit lead LSU (3-2) lost to Auburn 24-19.

On LSU’s first drive, quarterback Max Johnson‍ went 6-6 with 122 yards and a touchdown to his favorite target, receiver Kayshon Boutte‍. Boutte caught six passes for 127 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.

However, the Tigers would be forced to settle for field goals the rest of the way with multiple drives stalling inside the red zone. LSU kicker Cade York‍ continued his perfect season connecting on all four field goals. All eight of York’s field goal attempts have been good this season.

in the second quarter, LSU took a 13-0 lead on a 26-yard kick after a false start foiled a 4th and 1 attempt.

“Very disappointing loss,” LSU coach Ed Orgeron said. “We couldn’t capitalize on some opportunities, especially in the red zone. We had to settle for some field goals.”

However, Auburn (4-1) matched those field goals with touchdowns including the game-winner, a 1-yard run by Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter with 3:11 left to play.

After coming off the bench to lead Auburn to a comeback win over Georgia State last week, all eyes were on former LSU quarterback TJ Finley‍ as he made his return to Tiger Stadium.

However, it was Auburn’s other quarterback Bo Nix‍ who stole the show with heroic scrambling efforts and timely throws. Nix was 23-44 for 255 yards and a touchdown. He added 74 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

“It's a feeling you’ll never forget,” Nix said. “Our offense and defense started kind of slow and then they picked it up.”

On LSU's final drive Johnson connected on a few good throws before throwing an interception on 4th and 6 ending LSU's hopes.

Johnson was 26-46 for 325 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Par for the course this season, LSU’s running game continued to struggle with 29 yards on 24 carries. Corey Kiner‍ was the leading rusher with 22 yards on five carries.

"We came in with a running plan," Johnson said. "But, that didn't really go as planned."

Auburn outgained LSU 433-354.
