Four-star DE Jaxon Howard commits to LSU
LSU head football coach Brian Kelly and Tigers defensive line coach Jamar Cain have their first defensive lineman for the class of 2023 on board,
Four-star defensive end Jaxon Howard of Minneapolis (MN) Robbinsdale Cooper has announced he’s committed to LSU.
“I will be committed to LSU,” Howard announced on CBS HQ.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound edge rusher chose LSU over Miami, Michigan and home-state Minnesota. He’s rated as the No.1 prospect over all from the North Star State.
This spring and early summer he made several visits to LSU. He was on campus for the Tigers spring football game and then returned last month for an official visit.
Howard pointed out his relationship with Cain as a big factor in his decision to choose LSU.
“Over the years I have had a great relationship with Coach Cain the defensive line coach and also the other coaches and support staff,” Howard said. “I had met coach Kelly when I went to Notre Dame last summer and it’s been an amazing experience getting to know him.”
Howard is listed by many as a tight end and he could absolutely play that position at the next level but he’s been recruited to LSU as a defensive end.
With Howard’s commitment, LSU now has seven commitments for the class of 2023. Howard’s father Willie Howard was drafted out of Stanford by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft.
