A 4-star Texas athlete visited LSU this past weekend and said that the Tigers are firmly in play to secure his services.

Athlete Jacorey Watson‍, a 4-star prospect in the Class of 2025 has seen his offer sheet grow in recent weeks — a list that now includes offers from Ole Miss, Michigan, Texas, Houston, in addition to LSU.

Watson said he had a solid visit to Death Valley — even after LSU fell flat on the field. He said he enjoys the Tigers’ program and has a good relationship with the Tigers’ coaches.

“LSU treats me like I’m at home,” Watson said. “I talk often with Coach (Cortez) Hankton and I have a good relationship with him as well. They’re definitely on my list.”

Watson has emerged as one of the top Lone Star State players in the Class of 2022 because he’s a burner.

Watson played 7 varsity games as a freshman in 2021, catching 21 passes for 243 yards. He then parlayed that success into a strong freshman track and field campaign where he ran a 11.48 100-meter dash. That track success, combined with strong showings on the summer camp circuit landed Watson on many recruiting boards around the country.

In 2022, Watson is playing both quarterback and wide receiver for Shadow Creek High School in Pearland, Texas.

Watson said he’s drowning and emerging as a big play threat and home run hitter.

Watson stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 170 pounds. He said he’s working hard to grow into his body and he believes he may grow taller before his senior season.

“My speed is one of my strongest strengths,” Watson said. “My awareness, my IQ is off the charts and I can read defenses really well, which gives me a big advantage.”

Watson is listed as a wide receiver by most recruiting services, but said that he is open to playing either receiver or quarterback at the next level if schools are interested in him as a passer. He said he’s working hard to try and master both crafts to be as college-ready as he can.

When asked to give an NFL comparison, he gave an answer with some LSU flavor. He said he is most like Baltimore Ravens and former Heisman Trophy Winner Lamar Jackson under center, but on the outside, he identifies most closely with former Tigers’ great and Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson.

“As a QB, I’m working on getting better at reading defenses and also my accuracy,” Watson said. “At wide out, I’m working on getting better with my route running and finding separation from the defenders.”

Sitting in Tiger Stadium for LSU’s game with Tennessee, Watson said he was studying how LSU’s offense was handling itself against a Top 25 opponent. He also said he wanted to visualize how he could fit into the LSU program at either of his two positions.

Watson said he is not in a rush to make a decision and wants to learn more about all of the schools interested in his services. He said the LSU visit was good and Tiger Stadium was a great environment — even with the early kick.

“I like LSU,” he said. “They are definitely one of the schools I am interested in — for sure.”
