Five-star CB Javien Toviano commits to LSU

Brian Kelly and his LSU football program picked up one of the biggest recruiting prizes in the nation on Thursday as five-star cornerback Javien Toviano‍ of Arlington (TX) Martin announced his commitment to the Tigers.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Toviano committed to LSU over Texas A&M, Georgia, Michigan and Texas, He had scholarship offers from just about every major program in the nation.

"We all know LSU is 'DBU.' If you are a defensive back, I mean, there are only a couple places that you go, that's Ohio State or LSU,” Toviano said in a recent interview with SBLive.  “I like what they are doing with their new staff. Coach (Brian) Kelly, in their first year, it has been exciting to watch them progress."

"We all know LSU has openings as well - with two corners entering the NFL draft this upcoming season, so that's also attractive." 

Toviano is being recruited to LSU by cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples with an assist from program recruiting specialist Sherman Wilson.

He finished the 2022 season with 27 solo tackles, 38 total tackles, two interceptions, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. On offense, Toviano carried the ball 41 times for 415 yards with eight touchdowns. 

LSU now has 25 commitments for the class of 2024.  The class is expected to be a consensus Top-5 class nationally with the addition of Toviano..  He could play both cornerback and safety at the next level.
