Safety Andre Sam signs with LSU

Graduate transfer Andre Sam has announced he will sign with LSU after entering the transfer portal last week.

Sam visited LSU on Wednesday.  He chose the Tigers over Miami.

The 6-foot-1 Sam prepped at Iowa High School in Calcasieu parish. He signed with McNeese out of high school, transferred to Marshall, then to Tulane earlier this year but that fell through when Lance Guidry left Tulane to become the defensive coordinator at Miami.

Last season for the Thundering herd he totaled 53 tackles, eight pass breakups and one interception in 12 games.

HERD FILE: Enrolled for the spring 2022 semester … Transfer from McNeese State … Two-time first team All-Southland Conference selection … Second team All-Louisiana as a junior … Recorded 179 career tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss, a half-sack, five interceptions, 20 passes defended and a fumble recovery … At Iowa HS: earned all-state honors at wide receiver and kick returner … Caught 48 passes for 775 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior, helping Iowa to a berth in the state quarterfinals … Caught 178 career passes for 2,593 yards and 31 touchdowns … Also ran track, as he was district champion in the long jump and a member of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams.
