BATON ROUGE – LSU junior Devin White has been named as one of five finalists for the Dick Butkus Award, which is presented annually to the top linebacker in college football, the Butkus Foundation announced on Monday.

White is joined on the list by Josh Allen (Kentucky), Devin Bush (Michigan), Tre Lamar (Clemson) and Dylan Moses (Alabama).

Now in its 34th season of honoring the top linebacker in college football, the 2018 Butkus Award winner will be announced on December 6.

White, a second team All-America in 2017, currently leads the Tigers and ranks fourth in the SEC in tackles with 98. He also has 8.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and eight quarterback hurries to his credit this year.

White goes into the Texas A&M game just two tackles shy of becoming only the seventh player in LSU history to record 100 tackles in back-to-back seasons.

Now in his second year as a starting linebacker for the Tigers, White has 261 career tackles to go along with 25.0 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. He’s also responsible for seven takeaways (4 fumble recoveries, 2 forced fumbles and an interception).

Last year, White set an SEC record by being named the league’s defensive player of the week four times. He led the SEC in tackles last year with 133, which ranks as the fourth-highest total in school history.
