Four-star DE Gabriel Reliford commits to LSU

LSU’s class of 2024 recruiting class got richer Friday morning as four-star edge rusher Gabriel Reliford announced his commitment to LSU.

“The platform in which they play. The SEC is definitely the biggest conference in college football right now,” Reliford said. “We have a long history of the 318, my area, having great players go to LSU.”

Reliford is a 6-foot-2, 255-pound edge rusher from Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was committed to Texas A&M since late June, but decommitted from the Aggies on December 3rd.

“Honestly, it was a combination of things,” Reliford said. “But when Elijah Robinson, he left, that was probably my last straw as far as me being with A&M. He was probably the only reason I was sticking with A&M.”

Being from Louisiana, LSU was a leader in his recruitment. Even before he decommitted, Reliford was considering the Tigers after former Texas A&M head coach, Jimbo Fisher was fired, and Defensive Line coach, Elijah Robinson, took the Defensive Coordinator job at Syracuse.

When Reliford decommitted, he announced a Top 4 schools in LSU, USC, Ole Miss and Tennessee. He also announced that he’d commit on December 9, which he changed to December 8 at 9:45 a.m. C.T.

Of the four schools, besides LSU, USC seemed to have had a chance to take him out of Louisiana as well. He took an official visit there on November 3, before he decommitted from Texas A&M.

He took an official visit to LSU on December 1, in which he decommitted two days later.

“The relationship with USC and LSU, both are like family,” Reliford said. “Both make me feel at home, both give me the sense that I’m more than just a football player.”

Reliford is LSU’s sixth defensive lineman commitment to its 2024 class. He joins four-star edge rusher, Kolaj Cobbins, four-star edge rusher, C.J. Jackson, three-star defensive lineman, De’Myrion Johnson, three-star Junior College defensive lineman, Shone Washington, and three-star edge rusher, Ahmad Breaux.

Reliford makes commitment No. 27 to LSU’s Class of 2024, and he is the 16th player from Louisiana to commit to LSU for the Class of 2024.
