Blake Baker to return to LSU as defensive coordinator
TigerBait sources have confirmed that LSU football coach Brian Kelly is expected to announce Blake Baker to fill his programs vacant defensive coordinator position.
Baker has spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Missouri. In 2021, he was linebackers coach at LSU during the last season of Ed Orgeron’s tenure as Tigers head coach.
“Blake brings a wealth of experience and success as a defensive coordinator throughout his career, including the last two years in the SEC at Missouri,” Kelly said. “His ability to develop and motivate his players while putting together highly successful defenses sets him apart in his field. I am excited to welcome Blake and his family back to Baton Rouge.”
Before joining Orgeron’s staff he served as defensive coordinator at the University of Miami for two seasons.
Under Baker, Missouri had the Southeastern Conference fourth best defense (total defense).
Baker recently signed a contract extension with Missouri and that contract requires a $950,000 buyout if he departs for a coordinator position at another university.
Baker is married to the former Roslyn Jones of Mandeville, La., She is a former All-SEC soccer player for LSU.
The Houston, Texas native is a graduate of Tulane University.
