Destrehan WR Phillip Wright commits to LSU
Class of 2025 wide receiver Phillip Wright of Destrehan (La.) has announced his verbal commitment from to LSU.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver committed to Michigan in early July but pulled back that pledge earlier this week.
He attended LSU’s “Bayou Splash” event and it was that event that really turned the tide in the Tigers favor.
“When I initially committed, I did it based off what others felt was best for me,” Wright said. “I chose LSU because that’s what I felt was best for me.
“My parents told me I will be the one attending the school, playing ball etc. so I have to be happy with my decision and I am happy with it!”
LSU wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton is recruiting Wright for the Tigers football program.
“Why wouldn’t a wide receiver go to Wide Receivers University (WRU),” said Wright. “Coach Hankton knows what to do with a guy like me.”
Wright also holds offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and many others.
LSU now has 21 commitments for the class of 2025. He’s one of three current receiver commitments joining TaRon Francis of New Orleans (La.) Karr and Derek Meadows of Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman.
Wright has been clocked at 4.52 in the 40 and has posted a 10-1 broad jump. He’s also posted a 10.46 in the 100 meters and 21.41 in the 200.
