LSU hosted a five-star receiver committed to Alabama this weekend for the overtime thriller against Ole Miss.

Caleb Cunningham‍, the coveted 2025 prospect out of Ackerman, MS, found himself impressed enough to name LSU his top back up option to Alabama.

“For sure,” Cunningham said when asked if LSU is the his top backup plan to Alabama. “They’re doing their job of trying to flip me! But still Roll Tide!”

As one would imagine, the thrilling overtime win against Ole Miss produced quite an electric atmosphere by all accounts. This did not go unnoticed by Cunningham at all.

The atmosphere was insane,” Cunningham said. “I don’t think there’s any atmosphere that can top Saturday night in Death Valley! That place was rocking! It really helped secure the win!”

Cunningham mentioned that he was initially high on LSU until Summer came around and he felt the recruiting efforts fell off.

“They were in the race before the summer, but really fell off,” Cunningham said. “That’s why I didn’t put them in my top-6. But they’re trying to work their way back with me. At one point, I had them really high actually.”

But now he feels the staff has worked hard to redeem itself and put him back in his good graces.

“The coaching staff has so much love energy for me,” Cunningham said. “It’s surprising that didn’t change after I committed to Bama! They want me bad and I can feel it!”

LSU’s 6th-ranked passing offense in the FBS has certainly helped leave an impression as well.

I actually love how they take a lot of shots down field,” Cunningham said. “I love their offensive scheme!”

Cunningham will sign in December, but will not be a January enrollee so he can play his final season of basketball at Choctaw County High School.
