Alabama Humiliates LSU 42-13
ESPN’s College Gameday came to Baton for college football’s “Game of the Week,” featuring LSU ( 6-3, 3-2) and Alabama (7-2, 4-2).
What they got was anything but - as Alabama steamrolled LSU 42-13 in Tiger Stadium effectively eliminating the Tigers from playoff consideration.
Two weeks ago, LSU traveled to Texas A&M where after benching Connor Weigman in the first half the Tigers were unable to adjust to a running quarterback.
However, not even two weeks of preparation during the bye week was enough time for LSU to make the adjustments it needed to stop Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe’s running attack. Milroe ran wild for 185 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries.
“If you’re watching the game, you’re like, ‘What did these guys do for the last two weeks?’” Brian Kelly said. “We have a scheme to stop the quarterback. We did not get it done.”
Alabama quickly jumped out to a 14-3 lead on the heels of two long and efficient touchdown drives to open the game.
LSU actually responded with two stops and a field goal giving the Tigers the ball down 14-6 with the ball and 3:37 remaining before halftime. Despite a sloppy start, LSU actually had an opportunity to tie the game going into halftime.
That’s when disaster struck for the Tigers.
On the first play of the drive, Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell blitzed unimpeded up the A-gap sacking and stripping LSU quarterback Garrett Nusmeier.
Alabama got the ball back at the LSU 32. Three plays later, Alabama held a commanding 21-6 lead.
LSU opened the second half driving down to the four-yard line when disaster struck yet again for the Tigers. Nussmeier threw an interception directly to Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson.
Nussmeier had a rough game for completing 27 of his 42 passes for 239 yards with one touchdown and a pair of interceptions. His favorite target was receiver Kyren Lacy with five grabs for 79 yards and a touchdown.
The Crimson Tide never looked back cruising to a 42-13 obliteration of LSU. Alabama outgained LSU 420-343.
LSU once again struggled to run the ball after the first play from scrimmage. LSU running back Caden Durham broke off a 45-yard run on LSU’s first play. He finished the game with just eight carries for 63 yards.
Defensively, LSU linebacker Whit Weeks continues to have a stellar season leading the team in tackles with 15.
