The drama between LSU and Ole Miss may have reached a new peak following Lane Kiffin’s recent controversial comments in Vanity Fair about Oxford and the stigmas it faces.

This week, LSU added another layer to the storyline by announcing the hiring of former head coach Ed Orgeron as special assistant to recruiting and defense.

Orgeron’s return comes with an extra twist: he’s also a former Ole Miss head coach, giving LSU two former Ole Miss head coaches on its sideline.

Meanwhile, Ole Miss has some familiar LSU ties of its own. The Rebels employ former LSU interim head coach Frank Wilson as running backs coach and also brought in Patrick Kelly, who previously worked under Brian Kelly at LSU.

And that’s before even getting into Kiffin and Oxford’s widely discussed split during a College Football Playoff push.

If all of that wasn’t enough to turn up the temperature, there’s another number adding fuel to the rivalry: 34 players and coaches have swapped sidelines since last year’s matchup.
