BREAKING: Homegrown Playmaker Stays Home: Trey Martin Commits to LSU
Four-star running back Trey Martin of Franklin Parish High School in Winnsboro, La., has committed to LSU, announcing his decision Wednesday morning and choosing the Tigers over Florida.
Martin is one of LSU’s top running back targets in the 2027 recruiting cycle and had been scheduled to visit Florida this weekend before shutting down his recruitment. His pledge makes him the 12th member of LSU’s recruiting class and the third running back to commit to the Tigers, joining Brennen Lacy and Tre Segarra. Segarra committed to LSU on Wednesday.
“LSU has always been at the top of my list,” Martin told TigerBait in May. “I just have an overall great relationship with the coaches and staff.”
Lane Kiffin’s staff had been recruiting Martin since their days at Ole Miss. Running backs coach Kevin Smith led the efforts at both Ole Miss and LSU, and the move to Baton Rouge only strengthened that bond.
“They always let me know that I’m going to be used in all types of ways in the offense,” Martin said. “That’s what’s great about being so versatile.”
“They’ve gone hard just off the relationship we built while those guys were at Ole Miss, where we were already locked in,” he said. “So once they came to LSU, nothing changed — it just got stronger.”
Martin’s former Franklin Parish teammate, Dezyrian Ellis, is a true freshman cornerback on the Tigers’ roster this season. Ellis was Franklin Parish’s quarterback, and the two shared the backfield in high school.
“Dezyrian calls me every day,” Martin said. “We talk, and he always has something good to say about LSU, which isn’t surprising. He loves it and can definitely see me there.”
On the field, Martin brings big-play production and versatility. In his first full season as Franklin Parish’s starting running back in 2025, he carried the rock 115 times for 1,310 yards — an average of 11.4 yards per carry — and 26 touchdowns in 12 games, helping lead the Patriots to the quarterfinals. He also caught 17 passes for 277 yards (16.3 yards per catch) and five touchdowns.
