The rising prospect out of Calhoun, Ga., was going through a normal night when his phone lit up with a call from an unknown number that changed the course of his recruitment: an offer from LSU. The Tigers extended the scholarship with little prior contact, a rare surprise in an era when major programs often build relationships with recruits months or even years in advance.
