Oregon outfielder Angel Laya is transferring to LSU after an impressive freshman season with the Ducks, giving coach Jay Johnson another major addition from the transfer portal.
Laya announced his commitment to LSU on Instagram. He hit .296 with 14 home runs, 47 RBIs and a .538 slugging percentage in 2026, earning Freshman All-America honors.
A standout in the class of 2025, Laya was among the nation’s best prospects coming into college.
Laya was ranked 12th among freshmen nationally in Perfect Game’s top 100, as the No. 7 outfielder and No. 23 overall player in California. Prep Baseball Report rated him the No. 6 outfielder and No. 17 overall player in the state, as well as the No. 21 outfielder and No. 108 player nationally.
Laya is a three-year letterman at Eastlake High School in Eastlake, California. He earned preseason All-America recognition for 2025 and was a first-team all-state and first-team Sweetwater League selection as a junior. As a senior, he served as team captain, earned second-team all-league honors, and hit .326 (31-for-95) with five home runs, 18 RBIs, 23 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.
Laya is the eighth commitment for Johnson and LSU from the 2027 transfer portal.
