Will Wade has landed his first major high school recruiting prize since returning to LSU.

Five-star 2027 combo guard King Gibson‍ announced his commitment to LSU on Sunday, choosing the Tigers over Arkansas, Louisville and Providence.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound Gibson plays for SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, and is regarded as one of the top guards in the country. The Rivals Industry Ranking rates Gibson as the No. 15 overall prospect nationally, the No. 1 combo guard and a five-star prospect in the 2027 class.

Gibson's commitment is a significant recruiting victory for Wade and LSU, which beat out a lengthy list of national programs for one of the most coveted guards in the class.

Arkansas and John Calipari were among LSU's primary competition late in the process, while Louisville and Providence joined the Tigers and Razorbacks in Gibson's final four. During various stages of his recruitment, Gibson also drew offers and interest from programs including UConn, Kentucky, Alabama, Houston, Michigan, Baylor, Syracuse, Auburn and NC State.

Wade's relationship with Gibson predates his return to Baton Rouge.

Wade and his staff recruited Gibson while at NC State, where Gibson had made multiple visits and emerged as one of the Wolfpack's priority targets in the 2027 class. After Wade returned to LSU, the Tigers re-offered Gibson and quickly became a major factor in his recruitment.

That relationship continued to grow throughout the spring and summer before LSU got Gibson on campus for an official visit during the Tigers' Sept. 26 football weekend against Texas A&M.

The visit proved to be a major development in LSU's pursuit.

Gibson had previously taken official visits to Louisville, UConn and Arkansas before making the trip to Baton Rouge. He had also scheduled an October visit to Baylor, but canceled that trip before announcing his college decision.

On the court, Gibson brings LSU a big, athletic guard capable of playing either backcourt position.

As a junior at SPIRE Academy, Gibson averaged approximately 15 points, four assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. He continued to elevate his stock during the spring and summer on the Nike EYBL circuit, averaging 17.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists through three sessions while shooting 48 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from 3-point range.
