Reese Alston‍ is an LSU Tiger.

Five-star guard Reese Alston committed to Will Wade and the LSU Tigers on Thursday afternoon, giving LSU its third five-star commitment for the 2027 recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-3 point guard out of Second Baptist School in Houston, Texas, chose LSU after a recruitment that included Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Wichita State, Houston and Vanderbilt.

Alston is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect nationally, the No. 3 point guard and the No. 1 player in Texas in the Rivals Industry Ranking.

Despite Alston's father, former NBA guard Rafer "Skip 2 My Lou" Alston, making some less-than-poetic comments about Wade earlier this week, the younger Alston pledged to "The General," giving LSU another major addition to its 2027 class.

Alston will join fellow five-stars King Gibson and two-sport star Ahmad Hudson as the core of Wade's recruiting class.

A decorated high school career

This past season for Second Baptist School in Houston, Alston averaged 22.2 points per game while adding 5.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 steals per contest as a junior.

Those numbers came across 34 games during the 2025-26 season.

As a sophomore in 2024-25, Alston averaged 21.2 points, 5.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game.

Alston is also a two-time state champion at Second Baptist and received the Guy V. Lewis Award, presented to the top boys basketball player in the Greater Houston area.

His junior-season performance earned him first-team MaxPreps Junior All-American recognition.

Alston also participated in USA Basketball's Junior National Team minicamp in October.

LSU wins a national recruiting battle

Alston's recruitment attracted interest from several major college basketball programs.

In August, he narrowed his list to seven schools: LSU, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Wichita State, Houston and Vanderbilt.

He ultimately completed official visits to LSU, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee and Wichita State, among other stops during his recruitment.

Alston visited Baton Rouge officially on September 5.

In the final stages of his recruitment, LSU and Louisville emerged as two of the leading contenders, with Wade and Louisville coach Pat Kelsey heavily involved in recruiting the Houston standout.

Alston's father, Rafer Alston, played 11 NBA seasons after becoming widely known for his streetball career under the nickname "Skip 2 My Lou."

Another five-star joins Wade's class

Collegiate scouts compare the explosive Alston to the likes of NBA star and 2019 second-overall pick Ja Morant.

With perhaps the quickest first step in the entire 2027 class, Alston will give Wade one of the most electric lead guards in the country, who projects to pair perfectly next to the aforementioned Gibson, whose elite defense and knockdown shooting could give the Tigers one of the best backcourts in the country next season.

Gibson, a 6-foot-4 guard from North Carolina, committed to LSU earlier this month after considering Louisville, Providence and Arkansas.

Gibson was ranked No. 15 nationally in the 247Sports Composite at the time of his commitment.

Hudson, meanwhile, committed to LSU in May. The Louisiana standout plans to compete in both basketball and football at the collegiate level.

With Alston, Gibson and Hudson all locked in, "The General" is far from done adding elite high school talent to his roster for 2027 and beyond.
