BATON ROUGE, La. — No. 9 LSU opened the 2026-27 women's basketball season in record-breaking fashion Monday night, overwhelming Southeastern Louisiana 129-35 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center behind a career-best performance from sophomore ZaKiyah Johnson.

Johnson poured in 33 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers, who established a school record with their 94-point margin of victory. The previous mark was 89 points, accomplished against McNeese in 2023 and Southeastern Louisiana in 2025.

LSU's 129 points were the third-most in program history, while its 69 first-half points established another school record.

Johnson was dominant throughout the night, connecting on 14 of 19 field goal attempts while adding five steals and three assists. She established career highs in points, steals, field goals made and attempted, and three-pointers made and attempted. Her performance also marked the fourth double-double of her LSU career.

Six LSU players scored in double figures. MiLaysia Fulwiley contributed 20 points, followed by Mikaylah Williams with 19. Grace Knox, Lola Lampley and Anna Minaeva each finished with 14.

Minaeva also collected 10 rebounds in her collegiate debut, recording her first career double-double.

The outcome was never in doubt after LSU opened the game with 12 unanswered points. Johnson accounted for six during the early surge, and the Lady Tigers continued to build their advantage throughout the opening quarter.

LSU led 37-4 after the first 10 minutes and extended its advantage to 69-9 by halftime.

The Lady Tigers were equally impressive defensively, limiting Southeastern Louisiana to just three first-half field goals. The Lions shot 3-of-22 from the floor and 1-of-12 from three-point range before intermission.

Southeastern Louisiana found some offensive success in the third quarter, scoring 16 points, but LSU still won the period 31-16 to reach the 100-point mark entering the fourth.

The Lady Tigers added another 29 points in the final quarter to complete the historic victory.

Up next: LSU (1-0) returns to the Maravich Center Thursday to face Texas Southern at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+.
