For the third consecutive season, a Big Ten Conference transfer will be LSU’s No. 1 quarterback.

Ohio State graduate transfer Joe Burrow was announced to the Tigers players at a team meeting Monday afternoon that he will be the starting quarterback in the season-opener against Miami in Arlington (Tex.) on Sunday night.

LSU coach Ed Orgeron and offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger met with Burrow and Myles Brennan on Monday morning. Orgeron did not want to name the starter at his weekly media luncheon because he wanted to inform the team first.

Purdue transfer Danny Etling replaced Brandon Harris as the starting quarterback in the second game of the 2016 season against Jacksonville State. Etling started the remainder of that season as well as all 13 games a year ago.

Burrow, a four-star recruit from Athens (Oh.) The Plains High School, was redshirted in 2015 at Ohio State. In his redshirt freshman season, Burrow completed 22 of 28 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Last season, he was 7-of-11 for 61 yards.
