President Donald Trump appeared on Lafayette’s “Moon Griffon Show” Thursday morning where he primarily discussed issues surrounding Covid-19, but he also discussed his desire for college football to return “sooner rather than later”.

Griffon lightheartedly stated to  the Presidentthat he  needed to be sure to attend the LSU-Alabama game in Tiger Stadium this fall because he’s been good luck for the Tigers. He noted that Trump attended the game in Tuscaloosa in November and the Tigers National Championship win over Clemson in New Orleans on January 13.

Trump responded by saying he got on the phone with Ed Orgeron Tuesday when Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards visited him at The White House.

“Well how good is your coach, Coach O. I spoke to him yesterday because when the governor was here I  said let's call him because they know each other very well obviously,” Trump said. “I have become friendly with him and he’s just a great coach.

“He's a great guy and a great coach and that's the team right? You want to play Alabama and Saban and what a great game that was incredible. That was really big time. I had never been to that big a game where it's this big-time college football. I don't know. Is it bigger than the NFL Live? I've never seen that many people at a football game.

Griffon responded by saying that Southeastern Conference football is way bigger than the NFL.

Trump then started talking about LSU Heisman Trophy Winning quarterback Joe Burrow who was taken number one overall in last weeks NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

“It's going to be interesting to see how your quarterback does because he's what a game he had and what a great player he is so it'll be interesting he goes to Cincinnati. It'll be interesting to see how he does. I hope he does really well, he’s a good guy.”

Griffon then mentioned how football is a big part of America getting back to normal and Trump agreed.

“You might have seen me yesterday, I actually mentioned those two teams (LSU and Alabama). I said look, I want to see Alabama and LSU and I don't want to have a stadium that's holding, you know, 20-thousand people,” Trump said. “I saw a hundred and twenty thousand people the last time right, you know, it maxed out plus I said, I don't want to have empty seats all over the place, you know, six leaves six empty and then you have a person sitting there with a beer now.

“I want it to be like what I saw and that's it's not, we are not successful until that happens, and I don't mean with everybody being tested when they walk in either. I wanted to be like it used to be and it will be there. It may take a little time, but it's going to be there sooner rather than later.”
