LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey picked up another big piece in her building of the Tigers basketball program Friday morning as four-star small forward Janae Kent of Oak Forest, Ill. has announced her commitment.

The 6-foot-1 Cook finished her junior season averaging 25.5 points and 9.5 rebounds.  She committed to LSU over offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Marquette, Dayton and others.

“She’s a kid that only comes around once in a career for a coach and a program. She can play all of the positions at the high school level if we asked her to,” Oak Forest head coach Jeff Kelly said.  “She has the ability to score from anywhere on the court, she’s a natural leader.  She was forced into a leadership role as a freshmen.

“Janae scored 30 points in her first ever varsity game as a freshman. She’s a great teammate and brings out the best in those around her. She’s an excellent student with a high grade point average.  She has a high basketball I,Q. is strong and deceptively fast.”

Kent visited LSU unofficially on the weekend of February 20 when the Tigers faced and defeated Florida, 66-61.

To say Kent comes from a basketball family would be an understatement.  Her older brother Jayson is a forward at Bradley.  Her father Jason was a guard for Ohio University in the early 90’s and her mom Anna played guard for West Virginia, a team that made it to a sweet-16.

Earlier this month, Kent was named first team All-State in Illinois .
