Brian Kelly’s blowout losses to Alabama were one of his significant marks against him while at Notre Dame. Kelly got that Monkey off his back Saturday night in Tiger Stadium upsetting the sixth-ranked Crimson Tide 32-31 in an overtime thriller.

“To come here and restore the pride and tradition of this program just means so much,” Kelly said. “I’ve been welcomed down here. It just feels so good to return the faith and trust they’ve given to me.”

This wild game saw four lead changes in the fourth quarter and a game-tying field goal with 21 seconds left to play.

LSU played it conservatively afterward and kneeled into overtime. Once overtime began, Kelly went the opposite direction.

A third-down pass interference call set up Alabama with a first down on the two-yard line, leading to a touchdown.

It took LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels exactly one play to match that effort. Daniels scrambled right and took it 25 yards for the score.

Daniels completed 22 of 32 passes for 182 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran for 95 yards on 18 carries including the game-winning touchdown.

Then, Kelly called ball game. The Tigers lined up for two and Danielsrolled out right and connected with freshman tight end Mason Taylor for the conversion and LSU’s first victory over Alabama in Tiger Stadium since 2010.

“As soon as I rolled out and I saw Mason open,” Daniels said, “I was like, 'Oh, it's game over.' ”

Despite the win, LSU was outgained 465-367.

“It’s a tough environment, tough place to play,” Alabama coak Nick Saban said. “Gotta give LSU a lot of credit for making the plays that they made when they needed to make them.”

LSU limited Alabama’s Heisman-winning quarterback Bryce Young to 25-51 passing with a touchdown and an interception.

LSU defensive lineman BJ Ojulari was LSU’s leading tackler with 11 tackles and half a sack. LSU freshman linebacker Harold Perkins had a huge impact on this game with eight tackles, a sack and three quarterback hurries.
