LSU puts away UAB 41-10
In a cold, rainy game at Tiger Stadium, LSU (9-2, 6-1) took care of business against UAB 41-10 keeping its College Football Playoff hopes alive.
UAB (5-6, 3-4) opened this game with a hot start offensively scoring on its first two drives and the Blazers trailed LSU just 14-10 in the first half. However, that’s as close as UAB would get in this game as LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels led LSU to 27 unanswered points.
“I’m so proud of our mental toughness and their ability to do it the right way,” LSU coach Brian Kelly said. “Jayden (Daniels) prepared very well. You could make the case that this was his best game of the year.”
With LSU running backs Josh Williams and Armoni Goodwin out for the game, LSU leaned heavily on Daniels.
Daniels was once again LSU’s leading rusher and passer in this game accounting for 408 total yards. He completed 22 of 29 passes for 297 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. He added 111 yards and a touchdown on his 12 carries.
LSU receiver Malik Nabers was Daniels’ favorite target on the night catching seven passes for 129 yards.
At running back, Noah Cain had to step up and he delivered one of his better games as a Tiger punching in three touchdowns on his 13 carries with 76 yards.
After a slow start, LSU’s defense did end up with a solid outing limiting the Blazers to just 259 yards and ten points. After UAB’s first two drives LSU gave up zero points and 166 yards.
Notably, LSU limited one of the nation’s leading rushers, DeWayne McBride to just 34 yards on 13 carries.
LSU linebacker Greg Penn III was the leading tackler with eight tackles followed by Harold Perkins with five tackles including two for a loss.
LSU will face Texas A&M in College Station next week before heading off to Atlanta for the SEC Championship.
