Trio has led LSU’s climb

Outfielder Dylan Crews, first baseman Tre Morgan and shortstop Jordan Thompson were installed in LSU’s starting lineup from the first game of their freshman campaigns. Mainieri coached these three players for just one season, which ended in a super-regional series loss at Tennessee.

LSU fell just short of the 2017 College World Series title when it was swept by Florida in two games.

The next two seasons did not produce the expected results from the Tigers. Neither the 2018 nor the 2019 team eclipsed the 40-victory mark. Those teams finished just a combined four games over .500 in Southeastern Conference play.

In 2018, LSU lost twice in the Corvallis Regional to Oregon State. The Tigers were outscored 26-1 by the Beavers in the two defeats.
