LSU loses to Florida State in overtime 79-76
Mfiondu Kabengele made a 3-pointer with less than one second remaining in overtime to give Florida State a 79-76 victory against LSU in a semifinal game of the AdvoCare Invitational tournament at HP Field House in Orlando (Fla.) on Friday afternoon.
DECISIVE STRETCH OF THE GAME
The Tigers had their opportunity to come away with a huge victory against the No. 14 Seminoles. A 3-point basket by Skylar Mays with 3:04 remaining in the second half put LSU ahead 65-56. But, the Tigers were outscored 12-3 the rest of the way. Florida State scored on five consecutive possessions – a 3-pointer by Kabengele, two baskets by Trent Forrest, a 3-pointer by MJ Walker and another field goal by Forrest which tied the score at 68-68 with two seconds to play. LSU’s only points came on a dunk by Emmitt Williams and one foul shot by Tremont Waters. The Tigers had a 67-66 lead with Waters at the foul line with ten seconds to play. Waters made only one of the two foul shots.

Mays led the Tigers with 19 points. He was 7-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-5 on 3-point shots. The 19 points equaled Mays’ season-high. He also had 19 points against Memphis. Mays’ four 3-pointers matched his career-best. Mays also contributed four assists and five rebounds.

LSU’s starting lineup consisted of Reid and Williams in the post, Smart and Mays on the wings and Waters at point guard. The five starters all played more than 20 minutes. Williams played the fewest minutes of the starters with 22. Reid played 41 minutes. . .Smart’s eight assists were a season-high. Smart, who was 6-of-13 from the field, missed five of his seven 3-point shots. . .Reid was no factor on the boards against the more physical Florida State team.
