It felt like this game was over before it began.

LSU’s red-hot offense made quick work of Army jumping out to a 38-0 halftime lead in Tiger Stadium Saturday night outgaining the Black Knights 338-90 before the half.

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels once again had an outstanding showing and was done for the night after one half. He completed 11 of his 15 passes for 279 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also added a touchdown on the ground giving him four total touchdowns.

‘When your quarterback is playing at that kind of level, he gives you a chance to win every game,” LSU coach Brian Kelly said. He's got a great supporting cast, there's no doubt about it. But the quarterback is the driver. Right now he's playing at an elite level."

LSU backup quarterback Garrett Nussmeier took over in the second half and went 7-12 for 90 yards and a touchdown.

LSU receiver Brian Thomas was on the receiving end of an 86-yard touchdown - the third-longest pass in program history. He finished the game as LSU’s leading receiver with three grabs for 122 yards and a pair of scores.

Right behind him was his partner in crime, LSU receiver Malik Nabers with four catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

LSU didn’t run the ball often in this game, so freshman running back Trey Holly did enough to secure the leading rusher spot after breaking off a 67-yard touchdown run with less than a minute to play. In his first substantial action as a Tiger, he finished with 91 yards on six carries with the aforementioned touchdown.

LSU outgained Army 570-193. This was LSU’s seventh consecutive game with 500 yards or more.

The shutout was LSU’s first since last year’s bout against New Mexico. This is especially meaningful after the struggles this unit has had this year.

"I'm not ready to nominate this defense for an award, but they are making the progress necessary to continue to build and have the building blocks to be a defense that can be a championship football team,” Kelly said. “This was a big step for us.”

LSU safety Andre Sam was all over the field with two interceptions and another pass broken up. But, LSU linebacker Omar Spights ended up being LSU’s leading tackler with nine tackles.
