LSU baseball newcomers make early impact

A quick review shows that Jay Johnson’s recruiting work is going to pay dividends in the 2024 campaign. Four non-pitching newcomers made at least three starts in the opening four games – outfielders Mac Bingham and Jacob Brown and infielders Michael Braswell and Steven Milam.

LSU opened the 2024 baseball season with an expected four-game sweep – beating both VMI and Central Arkansas twice.

However, this was no walk-over weekend for the Tigers. LSU did pound the Keydets 27-5 on Sunday, but the other three victories were all closely contested.

The Tigers did not take the lead for good in the opener against VMI until the sixth. UCLA transfer Gage Jump picked up a one-inning save in an 11-8 LSU victory.
