Both LSU and USC are in somewhat similar positions entering this season. Both teams are considered first-division teams in their respective conferences. However, neither team is considered a title contender in its league.

LSU’s situation has not changed in one year.

Before the Tigers’ season-opener against Florida State in Orlando 12 months ago, everyone recalled how successful they had been under coach Les Miles in those made-for-TV neutral site games.

LSU had defeated North Carolina in 2010, Oregon in 2011, TCU in 2013 and Wisconsin in 2014. The victory over the Ducks in Arlington (Tex.) propelled the Tigers to an unbeaten regular season and the Southeastern Conference championship.
