LSU ( 6-2, 3-1) went into College Station this weekend for a bout with Texas A&M to determine who owns sole possession of first place in the SEC. In the first half, LSU appeared to be in total control of this game. LSU held a 17-7 lead outgaining Texas A&M 283-147.

However, a few pivotal mistakes allowed Texas A&M (7-`1, 5-0) to stay in the game and catch fire for a dominant comeback winning the game 38-23

Notably in this game, LSU lined up for three field goals which resulted in zero points. LSU also couldn't run the ball for the entire game.

The Tigers mustered just 24 yards on its 23 carries. LSU’s leading rusher was running back Josh Williams with seven carries for 23 yards.

"We spent a lot of time on our run game. We should be better there,” LSU coach Brian Kelly said.  "I don't think we give him (LSU Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier) enough balance, and it makes him vulnerable because he has to do so much."

Texas A&M countered this with 242 yards on 49 carries.

In the first half, LSU’s defense swarmed Texas A&M starting quarterback Connor Weigman limiting him to just six completions on 18 attempts for 64 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.

In the second half, Texas A&M turned to freshman quarterback Marcel Reed. And that’s when everything went wrong for LSU.

Reed came in the game and added a read option element to the offense LSU had no answer for. He ran the ball nine times for 62 yards with three touchdowns in the second half. He also completed both of his pass attempts for 70 yards.

"We didn't think that he was going to come in the game,” Kelly said. “So, him coming in the game caught us off guard.”

On the other side of the ball, LSU Garrett Nussmeier played a dreadful half throwing three interceptions and completing less than 50% of his passes.

In the game Nussmeier 25 of his 50 attempts for 405 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

His leading target was receiver Aaron Anderson with three grabs for 126 yards and a touchdown.

The results of this was Texas A&M outscoring LSU 31-6 in the second half - or in other words - a total collapse for LSU in the second half.
