It was simple to explain the first week of Southeastern Conference basketball for LSU’s two teams.

Coach Kim Mulkey’s sixth-ranked women’s team did what a NCAA tournament team should do against second-division SEC teams. LSU crushed Arkansas on the road by 34 points Thursday night. Three days later, LSU cruised to a 10-point home victory over Auburn.

Coach Matt McMahon’s men’s team failed to beat a team on its level at home in the SEC opener.
