Johnson filling the bill at LSU

Jay Johnson is taking the Tigers to the CWS for the second time in the past three seasons. So, he is 2-for-4 in taking teams to Omaha. Bertman, Smoke Laval and Mainieri all took two LSU teams to the College World Series within their first four years on the job.

Jay Johnson is a West Coast guy, who took two Arizona teams to the College World Series.

When LSU Director of Athletics Scott Woodward hired Johnson as Paul Mainieri’s replacement in 2021, there were questions about his ability to adjust to the rigors of Southeastern Conference baseball.

Johnson will admit there was a learning curve for him in his first season with Tigers. Former LSU coach Skip Bertman certainly has been an excellent mentor for Johnson.
