Welcome to the new TigerBait.com! After 20 years covering LSU, our team has struck out on its own and gone independent. Click here to read more about why we made the move.

For the second time in three days, LSU coach Ed Orgeron announced a shuffle of personnel for the starting lineup.

On Wednesday, Orgeron revealed that Breiden Fehoko was moving to nose tackle – ahead of Ed Alexander and Tyler Shelvin. Glen Logan was elevated to Fehoko’s starting spot at defensive end.

On Friday, Orgeron indicated that starting right guard Ed Ingram has been indefinitely suspended from the team for a violation of team rules. Orgeron gave no indication as to the length of Ingram’s suspension.

It was felt that junior college transfer Damien Lewis was going to challenge for a starting assignment somewhere on the offensive line. Orgeron acknowledged during spring practice that Lewis could start at left guard with Garrett Brumfield replacing Lloyd Cushenberry at center.

Now, Lewis has his position on the first offense. Lewis has been shifted to Ingram’s spot at right guard. Ingram, who was on the field for more than 700 snaps, started 12 games as a true freshman at right guard. Ingram received his opportunity when Maea Teuhema left the team last August.

True freshman Chasen Hines will be the No. 2 left guard behind Brumfield. Hines was rated the No. 1 guard in Texas after his junior season at Marshall High School. Hines moved to the defensive line for his senior year at Marshall. It was thought that Hines would move back to offense at LSU.

“This was an unfortunate situation for Ed,” Orgeron said. “We are very happy for Damien. I think he would have earned a spot in the lineup.”

Orgeron said three players will not be available when preseason practice begins Saturday – tight ends Jamal Pettigrew and Thaddeus Moss and offensive tackle Cameron Wire. Pettigrew suffered a serious knee injury during the summer and Wire will be out a couple of weeks because of a high school injury.

Moss will be in Canton (Oh.) where he will introduce his father Randy who is being inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Orgeron spoke highly of Logan who finds himself in the starting defensive lineup. Logan, a redshirt sophomore, saw some playing time early last season when Rashard Lawrence was injured.

“At this time last year, Glen was thinking about transferring,” Orgeron said. “I am glad we were able to get him to come back. Glen’s body has changed. He lost a lot of body fat. He is older, stronger and more mature.”

Four scholarship quarterbacks will be at practice Saturday – graduate transfer Joe Burrow, Justin McMillan, Myles Brennan and Lowell Narcisse. McMillan graduated from LSU this summer. Orgeron listed what it will take for one of these four individuals to win the starting job.

“I want a quarterback who has leadership qualities,” Orgeron said. “I want him to work in class, run the offense, make the throws and do the right things. Whoever is the starter needs to string some good days together.”

Teams cannot have two-a-day practices. The Tigers will practice almost all of the time in the late afternoon. LSU will conduct three intrasquad scrimmages in August.

“Everyone passed the conditioning test for the first time under (LSU strength and conditioning coach Tommy) Moffitt,” Orgeron said. “It is going to be a physical, tough camp. Our goal is to focus on camp and not on (season-opening opponent) Miami. We want to build our football team.”
