LSU wins series opener against Bryant 13-6

LSU second inning – Zach Watson was hit by a pitch and Beloso singled. Watson and Beloso executed a double steal. Watson scored and Beloso advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Sam Owens. Beloso scored on a single by Hal Hughes. LSU 2, BRYANT 0

LS third inning – Giovanni DiGiacomo walked and moved to second on a ground out to the second baseman by Duplantis. Daniel Cabrera walked. Watson was safe on a fielder’s choice when Cabrera beat the throw from the third baseman to second base on a ground ball. DiGiacomo scored on a single by Beloso. Cabrera scored on a ground out to the shortstop by Hughes. LSU 4, BRYANT 0

Bryant fourth inning – Chris Wright doubled and went to third on a fly out to the rightfielder by Gaby Cruz. Wright scored on a double by Owens. LSU 4, BRYANT 1

LSU fourth inning – With two out, DiGiacomo singled and advanced to third on a single by Duplantis. DiGiacomo scored and Duplantis moved to second on an infield single by Cabrera. Duplantis went to third and Cabrera advanced to second on a throwing error by second baseman Jake Gustin. Duplantis scored on a wild pitch by Tyler Mattison. LSU 6, BRYANT 1

LSU fifth inning – Beloso singled. After Hughes popped out to the shortstop, Brock Mathis reached on an error by third baseman Tyler Panno. Brandt Broussard reached on an error by shortstop Jimmy Titus to load the bases. Beloso and Mathis scored on a double by Josh Smith. Broussard and Smith scored on a single by DiGiacomo. LSU 10, BRYANT 1

Bryant seventh inning – Gustin walked and James Ciliento was hit by a pitch. After Nick Angelini flied out to the rightfielder, Ciliento moved to second on a wild pitch by Eric Walker. After Ryan Ward flied out to the leftfielder, Titus walked to load the bases. Gustin scored, Cilineto went to third and Titus advanced to second on a wild pitch by Walker. Ciliento and Titus scored on a single by Wright. LSU 10, BRYANT 4                        

Bryant eighth inning – Owens hit a leadoff home run over the leftfield fence. After Panno struck out, Gustin doubled. Ciliento walked. After Angelini struck out, Ward walked to load the bases. Gustin scored on a walk to Titus. LSU 10, BRYANT 6

LSU eighth inning – With one out, DiGiacomo was hit by a pitch and Duplantis singled. Cabrera hit a three-run homer over the rightfield fence. LSU 13, BRYANT 6



Beloso had hits in three of the five innings in which the Tigers scored multiple runs. Beloso singled and scored LSU’s second run in the second. He singled home the Tigers’ first run in the third. Beloso had a leadoff single and scored in the fifth. Beloso, who walked in the eighth, went 3-for-4 in his second start of the season. He is now 5-for-9 with five RBIs for the year.

LSU’s starting batting order was Smith, SS; DiGiacomo, DH; Duplantis, RF; Cabrera, LF; Watson, CF; Beloso, 1B; Hughes, 3B; Mathis, C; Broussard, 2B. . .Mathis and Watson were the only Tigers starters without a hit. Mathis was 0-for-5 and Watson was 0-for-4. . .Hughes was the only LSU starter not to score a run. . .Hughes drove in his first two runs of the season. . .Making his first start, DiGiacomo reached base four times in five plate appearances. . .Every Bryant infielder except for the first baseman Wright made an error. . .Hess was better than he was in his first start against Louisiana-Monroe. He used his off-speed pitches quite effectively. Hess did hit two batters besides issuing two walks. Bryant was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position against Hess. Five of Hess’ six strikeouts came in the first two innings. . .Eric Walker had a seven-pitch sixth inning, but he struggled with his control in the seventh. He walked two, hit a batter and threw two wild pitches – one of which brought home a run. Walker was replaced by Aaron George after yielding a two-run single by Wright. . .George ended the seventh with a strikeout. He gave up two hits, including Owens’ home run, and walked a batter in the eighth. Matthew Beck walked both batters he faced and was replaced with a 2-1 count on Wright. Devin Fontenot struck out Wright with the bases loaded and two out. . .Trent Vietmeier pitched a scoreless ninth. One base runner reached on an error by the second baseman Broussard. Beloso also missed a foul pop up in the ninth. . .LSU is 5-0, while Bryant is 2-2. . .Due to the weather forecast, Saturday’s game between LSU and Bryant was pushed back from 3 p.m. Central to 7 p.m. Central. . .The paid attendance was 10,314.



LSU will play host to Bryant at The Box on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Central. Landon Marceaux will be the starting pitcher for the Tigers. The LSU-Bryant game will be available on the SEC Digital Network.
