Antoine Duplantis leads LSU to 17-8 victory over Bryant

Antoine Duplantis had three hits and drove in six runs as LSU defeated Bryant 17-8 at The Box on Saturday night.

           

HOW THEY SCORED

LSU first inning – Josh Smith singled and stole second. Smith advanced to third on an infield single by Zach Watson. Smith scored on a single by Duplantis. Watson scored and Duplantis moved to third when the ball got past centerfielder Nick Angelini. After Daniel Cabrera walked, Duplantis scored on a sacrifice fly to the centerfielder by Saul Garza. LSU 3, BRYANT 0

Bryant second inning – Jimmy Titus hit a leadoff homer over the rightfield fence. LSU 3, BRYANT 1

LSU second inning – Brock Mathis hit a leadoff homer over the leftfield fence. After Brandt Broussard flied out to the leftfielder, Smith walked and stole second. Watson walked. Smith scored when the shortstop Titus missed Duplantis’ pop up. Watson went to third and Duplantis advanced to second when Angelini made a throwing error. Watson scored on a sacrifice fly to the centerfielder by Cabrera. Duplantis scored on a single by Garza. LSU 7, BRYANT 1

LSU third inning – Mathis and Broussard walked. After Smith flied out to the rightfielder, Mathis scored on a double by Watson. Duplantis hit a three-run homer over the rightfield fence. LSU 11, BRYANT 1

Bryant fourth inning – Ryan Ward singled and went to second on a wild pitch by Landon Marceaux as Titus struck out. Ward scored on a double by Chris Wright. Jake Gustin walked and Sam Owens was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Wright scored, Gustin advanced to third and Owens moved to second on a wild pitch by Marceaux. Gustin and Owens scored on a single by Gaby Cruz. LSU 11, BRYANT 5

LSU fifth inning – With one out, Duplantis walked. After Cabrera flied out to the leftfielder, Garza reached on an error by third baseman Tyler Panno. Cade Beloso walked to load the bases. Duplantis and Garza scored on a single by Hal Hughes. LSU 13, BRYANT 5

LSU sixth inning – Broussard walked and Chris Reid singled. Giovanni DiGiacomo reached on an error by the second baseman Garza to load the bases. Broussard and Reid scored on a single by Duplantis. DiGiacomo went to third and Duplantis advanced to second on a ground out to the first baseman by Cabrera. DiGiacomo scored on a sacrifice fly to the centerfielder by Garza. LSU 16, BRYANT 5.

Bryant seventh inning – Cruz walked. After Bryan Hart struck out, James Ciliento was hit by a pitch. After Vincenzo Castronovo flied out to the centerfielder, Cruz and Ciliento scored on a double by Ward. LSU 16, BRYANT 7

LSU seventh inning – Hughes singled. After pinch-hitter Braden Doughty struck out, Gavin Dugas doubled. Hughes scored on a ground out to the third baseman by Reid. LSU 17, BRYANT 7

Bryant ninth inning – Ciliento walked and Vincenzo Castronovo singled. Ciliento scored on a single by Ward. LSU 17, BRYANT 8

      

LSU PLAYER OF THE GAME

Duplantis had three hits, including a three-run homer in the third inning, and knocked in six runs. The home run was Duplantis’ third of the year. Duplantis never hit more than two home runs in each of his first three seasons. Duplantis also singled in a run in the first and had a two-run single in the sixth. Duplantis, who walked in the fifth, scored four runs. For the season, Duplantis is 11-for-27 with three homers and 17 RBIs.

He retired only four of the 11 batters he faced. Morgese gave up six runs and four hits and walked three batters. . .Marceaux had just one bad inning before being replaced with two out in the sixth.
