Tough task for Mulkey

Kim Mulkey probably took the 2026 LSU team one round shy of its expected finish. With three new starters joining Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams in the lineup, reaching the Final Four ahead of the present field would have been quite an accomplishment.

The Women’s Final Four begins in Phoenix (Az.) on Friday night.

For the third consecutive year, coach Kim Mulkey’s LSU basketball team will not be there. The Tigers have been unable to get past the regional finals since winning the national title in 2023.

In both 2024 and 2025, LSU was beaten in the Elite 8 round – losing to eventual national Iowa and UCLA.
