LSU added another major piece to its 2027 recruiting class Tuesday morning when four-star running back Tre Segarra of Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina, announced his commitment to the Tigers.
The 5-foot-10, 210-pound Segarra is regarded as one of the nation's top running backs. According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, he is the No. 7 running back in the country, the No. 3 overall prospect in South Carolina and a Top-150 national recruit. 247Sports ranks Segarra as the No. 5 running back nationally and No. 123 overall prospect in the 2027 class.
Segarra chose LSU over a lengthy offer list that included Tennessee, South Carolina, Clemson, Florida, Penn State, Michigan, Miami and several other Power Four programs. LSU had emerged as the overwhelming favorite following his official visit to Baton Rouge earlier this month.
A powerful, compact runner with excellent vision and balance, Segarra put together a dominant junior season at Byrnes High School. He rushed for 1,460 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 8.4 yards per carry. He also showcased his versatility as a receiver, catching 19 passes for 198 yards and four touchdowns.
Over his three varsity seasons, Segarra has accumulated 2,834 rushing yards and 29 total touchdowns while averaging 7.3 yards per carry. He has added 546 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a pass catcher, highlighting the all-around skill set that made him one of the country's most sought-after backs.
Segarra becomes one of the highest-rated offensive commitments in LSU's 2027 class and gives running backs coach Kevin Smith a premier backfield prospect capable of making an early impact in Baton Rouge.
LSU now has 11 commitments for the class of 2027 with Segarra’s commitment. He’s the second running back commitment in the class as last week Lane Kiffin received the pledge of Brennen Lacey of Frisco, Texas.
