The NCAA passed a new eligibility rule for its sports – the ‘5-for-5 rule.’

Athletes will have five seasons of eligibility over a five-year period. The eligibility clock will start with the year in which the student enrolls or with the first year after the student has turned 19 years old.

Returning athletes can use the new rule if it increases their eligibility. Basically, any athlete who has not been redshirted has picked up an additional season.
