In August of 1985, a woman named Phyliss Fairchild walked into the first period Algebra class at Hanson Memorial High with a question, and an announcement.
Fairchild was the guidance counselor at HMS, and the author of this piece was a freshman in high school.
“Who in here plans to attend LSU when they graduate,” she asked?
Almost every hand, including mine, went up.
“You are all going to be in the incoming class of 1989,” she said.
