BATON ROUGE, La. – Two national championships in three seasons have helped cement LSU's place at the top of college baseball, and the Tigers have once again earned recognition as the nation's premier program.

D1Baseball unveiled LSU as the No. 1 program in its 2026 Top 100 College Programs rankings, giving the Tigers the top spot for the second consecutive edition of the list. LSU also held the No. 1 ranking in 2024.

The recognition reflects the remarkable success LSU has enjoyed under head coach Jay Johnson, whose program captured national championships in 2023 and 2025 while continuing to recruit and develop some of the nation's top talent.

D1Baseball's Aaron Fitt praised Johnson's leadership and the strength of his coaching staff, describing the LSU head coach as one of the elite figures in college baseball.

Unlike traditional preseason polls, D1Baseball's program rankings evaluate sustained success and the overall health of a program. The publication places particular emphasis on results over the past five seasons while also considering a program's outlook for the next five to 10 years.

Postseason accomplishments, including NCAA Regional appearances, Super Regional victories, College World Series trips and national championships, factor heavily into the evaluation. Coaching stability, facilities, recruiting, player development, financial resources and overall momentum also influence the rankings.

LSU finished ahead of several of college baseball's traditional powers, including Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida.

Johnson's success in Baton Rouge has been particularly impressive in postseason play. LSU has compiled a 26-7 NCAA Tournament record during his tenure, highlighted by College World Series championships in 2023 and 2025.

Those titles gave LSU its seventh and eighth national championships in program history and made Johnson the fastest coach to win multiple College World Series championships at one school.

Johnson, who earned National Coach of the Year honors in both championship seasons, has compiled a 220-105 record in five seasons leading the Tigers.

His impact has extended well beyond wins and losses.

During Johnson's tenure, LSU has produced 19 selections in the first five rounds of the Major League Baseball Draft and 28 selections in the first 10 rounds. Seven players coached by Johnson and his staff at LSU have reached the major leagues.

The Tigers are already preparing for their next championship pursuit.

LSU opened its six-week fall practice schedule on October 8 as Johnson begins assembling the 2027 squad. The Tigers will open the regular season February 19 against Long Island at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

With two recent national titles, a strong recruiting operation and another talented roster taking shape, LSU enters the upcoming season with its standing among college baseball's elite firmly established.
