LSU dismantles OU 63-28 advancing to National Championship
In the wake of tragic news LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger dialed up what might be the best offensive performance in recent history securing LSU’s (14-0, 9-0) spot in the national championship.
Ensminger received the news of the passing of his daughter-in-law, WDSU sports reporter Carley McCord, just hours before kickoff.

He responded to the tune of 63-28 over fourth-ranked Oklahoma with 693 yards of total offense.
LSU quickly established itself as the dominant team. Joe Burrow broke his own record for touchdown passes with seven and threw for more than 400 yards while scoring 49 points - in the first half.
It was another masterpiece on Burrow’s Heisman season. He went 29-39 with 493 yards, seven touchdowns and no turnovers. He now has 5,208 yards and 55 touchdowns this year.
Burrow now finds himself just three touchdowns and 625 yards shy of NCAA record for single-season records in both respective categories.
Oklahoma limited Biletnikoff-winning receiver Ja’Mar Chase to just two catches. But, fellow receiver Justin Jefferson stepped up in his stead and was arguably the best player in this game.
Jefferson hauled in 14 catches for 227 yards and four touchdowns.
much of the talk going into this game revolved around the health of LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He did play, but the lion’s share of the work went to reserve back, Chris Curry who carried the ball 16 times for 89 yards.
LSU’s offensive explosion may have led the Tigers to their first-ever 14-win season, but the defense played more than serviceably.
LSU limited Oklahoma’s (12-2, 8-1) Heisman finalist quarterback Jalen Hurts to 217 yards, no touchdowns and an interception while allowing less than half of his attempts to be completed.
LSU limited the Sooners to just 322 total yards of offense.
Linebackers Patrick Queen and Jacob Philips led the Tigers defensively with eight tackles each.
