Hopes were dismal for LSU (4-5) as 28-point underdogs in Tuscaloosa against second-ranked Alabama (8-1).

While LSU certainly isn’t the “moral victory” type of program, this game had a lot of those feelings around it as the Tigers kept much closer than expected. However eventually, Alabama’s might proved too much to overcome for the maligned Tiger roster with a plethora of players injured.

In the end, LSU fell just 30 yards short of the upset, but Alabama defeated LSU 20-14.

LSU actually had the ball inside the ten-yard line with 2:36 to play but failed to convert on 4th down rather than going for a field goal to make it a three-point game.

“It was fourth down fourth and eight, and there was a fade to the single receiver, “ LSU quarterback Max Johnson‍ said. “He got jammed up a little bit so I got to my second read, and I felt the pressure. So, I knew I had to get it out. It was fourth down, and I just have put it on him.”

Fast forward two minutes and 31 seconds later and LSU had the ball on the Alabama 30 and was forced to throw a prayer to the endzone that was not answered.

“I truly thought we were the better team tonight,” LSU coach Ed Orgeron said. “We came up a couple plays short.”

Despite the loss, LSU’s defense played its best game of the season limiting the potent Alabama offense to just six yards rushing and 308 total yards.

LSU linebacker Damone Clark‍ once again led this defense with 8 tackles as he continues his spectacular season with 106 tackles.

However offensively, the Tigers simply could not match those efforts. The Tigers were outgained 308-295.

Johnson had his fair share of ups and downs going 16-32 for 160 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

LSU running back Tyrion Davis-Price turned in another solid performance rushing for 104 yards on 23 carries. He now has 731 yards this season averaging more than 5 yards per carry.

LSU will play Arkansas next week at Tiger Stadium.
