Report: LSU OC Mike Denbrock leaving for Notre Dame

According to multiple sources including Doug Samuels of Football Scoop, LSU offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock has accepted the same position at Notre Dame.

This comes on the heels of Denbrock orchestrating the nation’s top-ranked offense and Heisman-winning quarterback.

This season, LSU’s explosive offense averaged 548 yards per game, which is more than 20 yards higher than the next-best offense. As a result, Denbrock was named a finalist for the Broyles Award.

This will be Denbrock’s third stint in South Bend coaching at Notre Dame. He previously coached there 2002-2004 under head coach Tyrone Willingham and 2010-2016 under LSU’s current head coach Brian Kelly.

Denbrock is originally from Homer, Michigan, less than two hours away from Notre Dame’s campus. This likely played a factor in his decision.

On December 6, Denbrock and LSU initially agreed to a three-year extension. However, that deal hadn’t yet been approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors, so it never went final.

No word yet on where LSU will look for Denbrock’s replacement, but expect LSU quarterback coach Joe Sloan to put his hat in the ring after working to develop Jayden Daniels into a Heisman winner over the past two years.
