Williams, Johnson Lead LSU to 81-58 Domination of Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The No. 13 LSU Lady Tigers (22-4, 9-3) thrashed the Texas A&M Aggies (17-8, 5-7) on Monday night by a score of 81-58.

Aneesha Morrow led the Lady Tigers with a sixteenth double-double on the season, scoring 25 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Flau’jae Johnson offered an early spark on her way to and outstanding 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Her 20 points tied her season-high and the six assists were a new best on the year.

Angel Reese also earned her sixteenth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 boards.

Matching her season scoring average of 13 in the first half, Johnson helped LSU build a 36-14 halftime lead.

That lead was also thanks to great defense by the Tigers, holding the Aggies to an abysmal 7-of-35 shooting through the first two quarters. 

LSU also racked up 11 assists and 14 fast break points in the first half on their way to full game totals of 20 and 16 respectively.

Thanks to Johnson’s early scoring, the Tigers won the first quarter by 11 points and matched that margin in the second quarter.

The third frame saw the Aggies battle hard to lower the deficit — which had ballooned to 31 points — by a single point to 21 points, or a score of 57-36.

Part of that third quarter surge by the home team was due to the refs tightening up and calling more fouls. Reese and Williams dealt with high foul counts, but still played the majority of the second half.

The Lady Tigers will now return home for a Thursday matchup with Auburn (16-9, 5-7) that will tip off at 8:00 PM.
