LSU’s 2024 Southeastern Conference baseball schedule was certainly top-heavy with series against four preseason-ranked top-ten teams in the first five weeks. Still, no one would have expected the Tigers to win their first league series past the middle of April.

Few questions concerning the offense needed to be answered during LSU’s spring football drills.

Griffin Herring threw five scoreless innings in relief and three players supplied key hits as LSU defeated Missouri 6-2 in the rubber game of their series in Columbia on Sunday afternoon.

Gage Jump threw a three-hitter and four players hit home runs as LSU defeated Missouri 12-1 in a game shortened to seven innings Friday night in Columbia.

A large enough sample size is in for LSU’s 2024 baseball team. Simply put, the Tigers are not competitive with the Southeastern Conference’s first division.

The picture is not as bright when one looks at the defensive side of the ball. Kelly did not mince words in his post-scrimmage press conference Saturday afternoon. Issues remain at defensive tackle and cornerback.

LSU does just what it has to do to lose a game.

LSU coach Jay Johnson went with the matchup by pulling righthander Luke Holman in favor of lefty Griffin Herring in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Maybe LSU will not be at a disadvantage at the most important position on the football field come September.
